Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. KTH is Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world dedicated to advancing knowledge. KTH is working with industry and society in the pursuit of sustainable solutions to some of humanity’s greatest challenges: climate change, future energy supply, urbanisation and quality of life for the rapidly-growing elderly population. KTH is addressing these with world leading, high-impact research and education in natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as in architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy. Almost two-thirds of the SEK 4 billion turnover relates to research. Basic and applied research are performed side-by-side at KTH and interdisciplinary research is conducted in parallel with work in specific fields. This approach encourages versatile solutions and the innovative climate creates many opportunities to realise great ideas. KTHeducational programmes foster a new generation of engineers, architects, teachers and undergraduate engineers. KTH embraces academia and the public and private sectors working together. KTH is part of extensive international research collaborations and participate in a large number of educational exchange or joint programmes with universities and colleges in Europe, the U.S., Australia, Asia and Africa.

During 2001 to 2005, Dr Yan was the chair professor and head of Energy Engineering at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. Prof Yan’s research interests include simulation and optimization of advanced energy systems; renewable energy especially in biomass energy; advanced power generation; climate change mitigation technologies and related issues in environment and policy; clean development mechanism (CDM), and fundamental engineering thermodynamics. Prof Yan published over 300 peer reviewed scientific journal papers including papers in Science and Nature Climate Change, with H-index of 37 and i10 index of 109. Prof Yan is the editor-in-chief of the international journal, Applied Energy, and advisory editor of Energy Procedia both published by Elsevier. He is the editor-in-chief of the Handbook of Clean Energy Systems published by Wiley. He is the conference chairman of International Conference on Applied Energy ICAE, (1st Hong Kong, 2nd Singapore,3rd Italy, 4th China, 5th South Africa, 6th Taiwan, and 7th UEA), and the 3rd Int. Green Energy Conference (IGEC); and the Conf. Co-Chair of the 4th IGEC. He is the associate editor and editorial board members of several international journals, including Energy, Energy Conversion & Management, Energy Storage, Int. J. of Energy Research, Energy Engineering and Sciences, Int. J. of Green Energy, Scientific Review, and Frontiers of Energy and Power Engineering. He also serves as the advisory expert to the United Nation, European Union Commission, Asian Development Bank, and other international organizations; the Overseas Assessor of Chinese Academy of Sciences; and academic advisor to Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong City University.

Dr. Anders Lundblad is Associate Professor (Docent) researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, KTH, and Mälardalen University, with special focus on supercapacitors, fuel cells and fuel cell systems. He received his PhD at KTH in 1996 on alkaline fuel cells and molten carbonate fuel cells. From 1996 to 2000 Dr. Lundblad was IP manager and responsible for supercapacitor development in Superfarad Svenska AB. Between 2000 and 2007 he was engaged as a researcher at KTH in the Swedish national program on polymer electrolyte fuel cells financed by MISTRA, The Swedish foundation for strategic environmental research, and also with research and development on supercapacitors financed.by the Swedish energy agency. During this period he was project manager of EU-projects and Swedish national projects, and co-supervisor to 5 PhD students. In 2005 he was appointed Docent (Associate Professor). In 2005 Dr. Lundblad founded myFC AB and he is the primary inventor of its micro fuel cell technology (co-author of eight patents). Within myFC he has been managing the technical development of a fuel cell powered charger for cell phones, called Powertrekk (www.powertrekk.com). Dr. Lundblad is the co-author of more than 60 scientific publications and 10 patents. He has been appointed scientific referee, member of evaluation committees and opponent at several occasions. He has also worked as an expert evaluator for the EU-commission within the Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Initiative.
